Taxonomy
Platananthus hueberi was named by Friis et al. (1988) [Plate 3, fig. 1 of Friis et al. (1988).]. Its type specimen is USNM 401637. Its type locality is Neuse River Cut-Off, which is in a Campanian marine horizon in the Black Creek Formation of North Carolina.
