Dendrostella was named by Glinski (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Fras Sepkoski's reference number: 422]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Stauriidae by Merriam (1974), Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).

C. W. Merriam 1974These slender dendroid and phaceloid rugose corals have a thick wall, no dissepiments, smooth, simple, even, nonamplexoid and unthickened septa; minor septa are short or lacking. Tabulae are complete, either straight or with a slight doming or sag.
