Schizogalerix was named by Engesser (1980). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Erinaceidae by Doukas (1989); and to Galericini by Engesser (1980), Vasileiadou and Koufos (2005), Lopatin (2006).

B. Engesser 1980	Evoluierte Galerix-Formen mit Tendenz zur Zweiteilung des Mesostyls an den M sup. und kurzen, breiten M1 und M2, deren Protoconus-Hinterarm keinerlei Verbinding mit dem Metaconulus zeigt, sondern immer zum Hypoconus zieht. Vordergebiss des Unterkiefers stark verkürzt, miet schmächtigem, steil eingepflanzten Canin. Mandibelknochen relativ kräftig.
