Taxonomy

Thecodontosauridae was named by Lydekker (1890). Its type is Thecodontosaurus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Anchisauridae by von Zittel (1911), Das-Gupta (1930), Kuhn (1966), Steel (1970), Benedetto (1973), Galton (1973), Heerden (1979), Benton (1979), Cooper (1981); it was synonymized subjectively with Zanclodontidae by Hay (1930).
