Kreischeria was named by Geinitz (1882). It is the type genus of Kreischeriidae.
It was assigned to Eophrynidae by Pruvost (1919), Petrunkevitch (1945), Petrunkevitch (1949), Petrunkevitch (1953); and to Kreischeriidae by Haase (1890), Rößler and Dunlop (1997), Dunlop et al. (2013).
