Taxonomy
Wentzelella was named by Grabau (1932) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step P Djhu Sepkoski's reference number: 893]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Wentzelellinae.

It was assigned to Waagenophyllinae by Hill (1956); to Wentzelellinae by Minato and Kato (1965) and Hill (1981); to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Wentzellophyllinae by Wang et al. (2006).
