Alveopora was named by Blainville (1830) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); to Poritidae by Veron (2000) and López-Pérez (2005); and to Acroporidae by Kitahara et al. (2010).
