Dimorphocoenia was named by de Fromentel (1857) [Sepkoski's age data: J u K Apti-l Sepkoski's reference number: 821,826]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Montlivaltiidae by Götz et al. (2005).
