Euhelia was named by Milne-Edwards and Haime (1850) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo J u Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. Its type is Oculina gemmata.

It was assigned to Oculinidae by Koby (1895); to Euheliinae by Wells (1956); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
