Gardineroseris was named by Scheer and Pillai (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m R Sepkoski's reference number: 1110]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Agariciidae by Veron (2000), López-Pérez (2005); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002), Humblet et al. (2009).
