Meandrina was named by Lamarck (1801) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1110]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Meandrininae by Wells (1956); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); to Trachyphylliidae by López-Pérez (2005); and to Meandrinidae by Budd et al. (2012).
