Molukkia was named by Jaworski (1915) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Rhae Sepkoski's reference number: 919]. It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Oppelismilia by Wells (1956).

It was assigned to Scleractinia by Flügel (1964), Sepkoski (2002); and to Stylophyllidae by Kiessling (2008).
