Ovalastraeopsis was named by Alloiteau (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: J m Sepkoski's reference number: 183]. It is not extant. Its type is Ovalastraeopsis soaravikelyensis.

It was assigned to Andemantastraeidae by Alloiteau (1958); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
