Taxonomy
Cardium sorrentoensis was named by Hanna (1927). Its type specimen is UCMP 31000 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Trachycardium (Agnocardia) sorrentoense by Vokes (1939); it was recombined as Acanthocardia sorrentoensis by Vokes (1984); it was recombined as Acanthocardia (Agnocardia) sorrentoense by Squires and Demetrion (1992), Moore (2003); it was recombined as Agnocardia sorrentoensis by Schneider (2002), Hendy (2020).
