Paraclausastraea was named by Zlatarski (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: K Barr-l Sepkoski's reference number: 821]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); to Montlivaltiinae by Baron-Szabo (2002); and to Montlivaltiidae by Baron-Szabo et al. (2003).
