Periseris was named by Ferry (1870) [Sepkoski's age data: J m K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 806].

It was assigned to Calamophylliidae by Wells (1956); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Latomeandridae by Morycowa and Misik (2005).
