Taxonomy
Navahopus was named by Baird (1980). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Navahopus falcipollex. It is the type genus of Navahopodidae.
It was assigned to Plateosauridae by Baird (1980); to Dinosauria by Morales and Colbert (1986); to Prosauropoda by Rainforth (2003); to Prosauropoda by Nicosia and Loi (2003); to Navahopodidae by Milàn et al. (2008); and to Sauropodomorpha by Irmis (2005) and Salisbury et al. (2016).
