Rhipidosmilia was named by Geyer (1955) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sepkoski's reference number: 658]. It is not extant. Its type is Rhipidosmilia moravica.

It was assigned to Rhipidogyridae by Geyer (1955); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aplosmiliidae by Lathuilière (2024).
