Smilostylia was named by Roniewicz (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-u J Kimm-l Sepkoski's reference number: 868]. It is not extant. Its type is Smilostylia bukovensis.
It was assigned to Smilostyliidae by Roniewicz (1976); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
