Taxonomy
Stephanocoenia was named by Milne-Edwards and Haime (1848) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bath R Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Seriatoporidae by Wells (1941); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Astrocoeniidae by López-Pérez (2005), Baron-Szabo (2006).
