Taxonomy
Apis miocenica was named by Hong (1984). Its type specimen is Beijing Natural History Museum 79040, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Shanwang, Linqu County, collection 79/80 (Beijing Museum), which is in a Burdigalian lacustrine - large mudstone in the Shanwang Formation of China.
It was recombined as Apis (Synapis) miocenica by Engel (1999), Takahashi and Takahashi (2025).
