Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
J. N. Biewer et al. 2020Imagotaria downsi shares with other known odobenids a large, dorsoventrally elliptical narial opening with thick margins (c. 2[1]), dorsoventrally thick and lat- erally broad pterygoid strut (c. 13[2]), prominent antorbital process formed by frontal and maxilla (c. 15[1]), large epitympa- nic process (c. 23[1]), bony tentorium that is appressed to the pet- rosal (c. 29[1]), medial lip of distal trochlea greater in diameter than distal capitulum (c. 84[1]), and distal end of radius expanded (c. 85[1]). It can be differentiated from more basal odobenids like Pron. repenningi and Protot. primigenia, by a flattened and plate- like paroccipital process (c. 34[3]). It can be differentiated from all other more basal odobenids (i.e., basal odobenids excluding Pontolis and Os. eodon) by its shallow glenoid fossa (c. 26[1]), lack of a metaconid on its lower postcanines (c. 70[2]), and lack of a ventral tuberosity of the zygomatic root (c. 7[0]). The latter character also differentiates it from all neodobenians except G. pugnax. Imagotaria downsi can be distinguished from species of Pontolis and Os. eodon by an anterodorsally oriented mandib- ular foramen (c. 48[1]). It can be further differentiated from Pontolis by well-developed tooth enamel (c. 62[0], which also differentiates it from neodobenians), lower postcanines with rough lingual cingula (c. 67[1]), and talonid basins in the postca- nines (c. 69[0]). It can be distinguished from Os. eodon and Neo- dobenia by having a p2 with double or bilobed roots (c. 72[0]) and a double-rooted m1 (c. 79[0]). In addition to previously listed characters (c. 7, 62, 72, 79), I. downsi can be distinguished from Neodobenia by having a narrow interorbital bar (c. 17[1]),
