Sinuitopsis was named by Perner (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi O Ashg]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Bellerophon (Sinuitopsis) by Troedsson (1919); it was reranked as Sinuites (Sinuitopsis) by Knight et al. (1960).

It was assigned to Bellerophon by Troedsson (1919); to Sinuites by Knight et al. (1960); to Bucanellidae by Starobogatov (1970); to Cyrtolitidae by Horný (1986); and to Cyrtonellida by Sepkoski (2002).
