Taxonomy

Cytherideidae was named by Sars (1925). It is extant. Its type is Ovocytheridea.

It was assigned to Cytheracea by Bertels (1972), Musacchio (1973), Bertels (1973), Uliana and Musacchio (1978), Ballent (1980), Hazel (1983), Ballent (1998); to Cytherideoidea by Liebau (2005); and to Cytheroidea by Crasquin (2008), Carignano and Ballent (2009), Babinot and Colin (2011), Carignano (2012), Sebe et al. (2013), Chitnarin (2017), Forel (2017), Chitnarin and Ketwetsuriya (2021).
