Taxonomy

Tringa melanotos was named by Vieillot (1819). It is extant.

It was recombined as Erolia melanotos by Jehl (1967) and Campbell (1976); it was recombined as Calidris melanotos by Olson and Rasmussen (2001) and Clements et al. (2017).
