Trachybembix was named by Böhm (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-u Tr Indu-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1130]. Its type is Pleurotomaria junonis.

It was assigned to Gastropoda by Diener (1916); to Pleurotomariacea by Knight et al. (1960); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Pleurotomariidae by Wagner (2023); and to Rhaphistomellidae by Monari and Dellantonio (2024).
