Taxonomy
Gnathodon cuneatus was named by Sowerby (1831). It is extant.

It was misspelled as Gnathodon cuneatum by Cooke (1936); it was recombined as Rangia cuneata by Dall (1898), Abbott (1954), Richards (1962), Spencer and Campbell (1987), Petuch and Roberts (2007), Hendy et al. (2008).
