Prosansanosmilus peregrinus

Taxonomy
Prosansanosmilus peregrinus was named by Heizmann et al. (1980). It is not extant. Its type specimen is SMNS 41482, a mandible (sin. with c, p2(?), p3-m1). Its type locality is Langenau 1, which is in a Burdigalian paralic marl/mudstone in the Brackwater Molasse Formation of Germany. It is the type species of Prosansanosmilus.

E.P.J. Heizmann et al. 1980Machairodontider Felide mit der Zahnformel 3/3, 1/1, 3/2?3,1/1. Mandibel schlank und gestreckt mit machairodontid ausgebildetem "Kinn" und entsprechend großflachiger Symphysenregion; Processus coronoideus niedrig, d.h. die Mandibularbezahnung nur geringfügig überragend; c. inf kurz und kräftig; Diastem c-p3 gestreckt; p3 und p4 mit gegenüber Styliden und Hintercingulum dominierendem Haupthügel; m1 kurz und hoch, mit wenig geöffneten Winkel zwischen para- und Protoconidschneide (ca. 100-105º), Metaconid und Talonid reduziert, aber deutlich erkennbar; P4 mit niedriger, wenig scheidend ausgebildeter Krone und mit wohlentwickeltem Innenhügel.
