Macoma paralenis was named by Gardner (1947) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Florida.]. Its type specimen is USNM 157907, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 2646 - Oak Grove [Oak Grove Sand], which is in a Burdigalian marine sandstone in the Oak Grove Formation of Florida.
