Bos bubaloides

Taxonomy

Bos bubaloides was named by Arambourg (1979). Its type specimen is No. 1952-9:1, a partial skull (horn fragment), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Aïn Hanech, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Algeria.

Synonyms

Bos praeafricanus was named by Arambourg (1979). Its type specimen is No. 1952-9:53, a partial skull (posterior part of the skull), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Aïn Hanech, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Algeria.

It was synonymized subjectively with Bos bubaloides by Geraads et al. (2004), Chaid-Saoudi et al. (2006); it was recombined as Pelorovis praeafricanus by Gentry (2010).
