It was corrected as Rhinocerotina by Bonaparte (1850); it was reranked as the subtribe Rhinocerotina by Prothero and Schoch (1989), Kaya and Heissig (2001), Antoine et al. (2010) and Khan et al. (2014).
It was assigned to Elephantidae by Gray (1825); to Rhinocerotidae by Bonaparte (1850); and to Rhinocerotini by Prothero and Schoch (1989), Kaya and Heissig (2001), Antoine et al. (2010) and Khan et al. (2014).
