Micromomyini Szalay, 1974 is the original family-level taxon. The taxon was subsequently raised to the rank of subfamily (as Micromomyinae) by Gunnell (1989), and then to the rank of family (as Micromomyidae) by multiple recent authors.

Taxonomy
Micromomyinae was named by Szalay (1974). It is not extant. It is the type tribe of Micromomyidae.
It was assigned to Microsyopidae by Gunnell (1989) and Robinson (1994); and to Micromomyidae by Chester and Beard (2012).
