Mactra falcata was named by Gould (1850). It is extant.

It was recombined as Symmorphomactra falcata by Dall (1894); it was recombined as Spisula falcata by Arnold and Hannibal (1913); it was recombined as Spisula (Symmorphomactra) falcata by Packard (1916); it was recombined as Mactra (Spisula) falcata by Bruff (1946); it was recombined as Simomactra falcata by Coan et al. (2000), Moore (2003), Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012), Hickman (2015), Hendy (2021).
