Taxonomy
Stertomys daunius was named by Freudenthal and Martin-Suarez (2006). Its type specimen is RGM 514180, a tooth (M2 sup. sin.), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Biancone 1, which is in a Miocene fissure fill horizon in Italy.
