Isodectes was named by Cope (1896). It is not extant. Its type is Pariotichus megalops.
It was assigned to Pariotichidae by Cope (1896), Hay (1902), Case (1911), Hay (1930) and Kuhn (1966); to Saurerpetontidae by Carroll (1988), Sequeira (1998) and Schoch (2013); and to Eobrachyopidae by Yates and Warren (2000) and Schoch and Milner (2014).
