Taxonomy
Protohymen elongatus was named by Carpenter (1930). Its type specimen is MCZ 3069, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Elmo, MCZ 1927 collection, which is in an Artinskian pond limestone in the Wellington Formation of Kansas.
