Onchonotus was named by Raymond (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Trep O l Sepkoski's reference number: 80]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Catillicephalidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Trilobita by Sepkoski (2002).
