Libumella was named by Rozhdestvenskaya (1959) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-u C Vise-u Sepkoski's reference number: 74,996]. Its type is Libumella discoides.

It was assigned to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002); to Aparchitidae by Yuan and Crasquin-Soleau (2007); and to Miltonellidae by Tarnac et al. (2021).
