Heleodromia starki was named by Hoffeins et al. (1997). Its type specimen is Hoffeins 707, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Bitterfeld amber (Hoffeins collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Germany.
