Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
S. L. Olson and H. F. James 1991Postcraniallya typical moa-nalo. Differs from Thambetochenand Ptaiochen in the unique shape of the rostrum, which is almost as high as it is long, with the palatal surface being much broader, especially so in the spaces between the two median ridgesand the edge of the bill. The occlusal surfaceof the dentaryis correspondinglybroadand flat, and bothjaws lackthe bony tooth- like projectionsof Thambetochenand Ptaiochen. In Chelychelynechenthe nostril is reducedand orientedalmost verticallyinstead of horizontally. In lateralview of the mandible, the symphysiscurvesupwardanteriorly, ratherthanbeingstraight, the coronoid areais much higherand more expanded, with the coronoid process much betterdeveloped and more dorsallysituated, and the retroarticularprocess markedlyshorterand deeper.
