Testudo globosa was named by Portis (1890). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Terranuova Bracciolini, which is in a Pliocene marine horizon in Italy.

Synonyms
  • Testudo szalaii was named by Mlynarski (1955). Its type specimen is No. 206, a partial shell (Large fragments of caudal part of carapace allld of plastron, belonging to one specimen), and it is a 3D body fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Testudo globosa by Mlynarski (1984).
