Taxonomy
Allophaiomys was named by Kormos (1932). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Microtus by van der Meulen (1973), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Martin (1987) and Martin (1995); it was synonymized subjectively with Phaiomys by Martin (1974) and Zakrzewski (1985).

It was assigned to Cricetidae by Kormos (1932), Martin (1975), Repenning (1983), Repenning and Grady (1988), Morgan and White (1995), McKenna and Bell (1997) and Fejfar and Repenning (1998); to Arvicolidae by Krukover and Chekha (1999); to Arvicolinae by Bell and Bever (2006); and to Arvicolini by Albright et al. (2019).

T. Kormos 1932Das Gebiß ist im allgemeinen nach dem Grundplan von Arvicola, Phaiomys und den evoluierten Mimomys-Arten gebaut. Die Zähne met sehr dünnen Schmelz, welcher viel schmächtiger ist als bei Arvicola und in bezug auf seine Dicke zwischen jenem von Phaiomys und Lagurus steht; in den Zahneinbuchtungen mit reichlicher Zementablagerung. Antiklinalen merh zugespitzt als bei Arvicola und kürzer als bei Phaiomys. Gebiß Lagurus-artig methr auseinandergezogen wie bei Phaiomys und Arvicola. Der dritte obere Backenzahn weniger, m3 (in seiner Breite) mehr reduziert.
