Taxonomy
Tetraonycidae was named by Böving and Craighead (1931). It is extant. Its type is Tetraonyx.

It was reranked as the tribe Tetraonycini by Riccieri et al. (2022); it was reranked as the subfamily Tetraonycinae by Bouchard et al. (2011) and Cai et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Meloidae by Bouchard et al. (2011) and Cai et al. (2022); and to Meloinae by Riccieri et al. (2022).
