Taxonomy
Telmatherium ultimum was named by Osborn (1908). Its type locality is Kennedy's Hole, which is in an Uintan terrestrial horizon in the Uinta Formation of Utah.
It was recombined as Metatelmatherium ultimum by Granger and Gregory (1938), Granger and Gregory (1943), Mader (1989), Mader (2008) and Mihlbachler (2008).
