Bolaspidella was named by Resser (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm uMid-l Cm uMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 81]. Its type is Ptychoparia housensis.

It was assigned to Ptychoparioidea by Palmer (1954); to Menomoniidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
