Environment/lithology: marine; volcaniclastic, calcareous shale and limestone

• "Sediments...border the volcanic elevations seawards from those with the Bumastus-Sphaerexochus-Cheirurus Assemblage; generally a lower energy BA 4-5..This assemblage, however, is contained in an impoverished form even in tuffaceous beds penetrating far offshore from the volcanic elevations into...graptolite shale facies..."
• "The lithology is distinguished by tuffaceous and calcareous shales with intercalations of fine-grained volcanoclastic rocks and locally developed thin impure limestone beds. The facies is close to the Aulacopleura Shale but the representation of trilobites is different; complete exoskeletons are found in distinct layers."
