Where: Mie, Japan (34.8° N, 136.4° E: paleocoordinates 35.3° N, 135.8° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Kameyama Formation (Agé Group), Late/Upper Pliocene (3.6 - 2.6 Ma)

• derivation from lower part of the Kameyama Formation is probable but not certain. Horizon considered to be the Stegodon elephantoides zone.

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: fluvial-lacustrine; fine-grained, gray, blue siltstone

• "fresh water" deposition based on gastropod fauna
• "The matrix containing the skull is bluish grey silt to fine-grained sand and is easily dispersed in water."
