Rothastrea lubinensis was named by Eliasova (1989). Its type locality is Klokocov, Pribor area, patch reefs, Zdanice-Subsilesian Unit, which is in a Cenomanian/Santonian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone/conglomerate in Czechia.
It was recombined as Goniopora lubinensis by Baron-Szabo (2009).
