Taxonomy
Eurypterus was named by De Kay (1825) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov D Emsi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 360]. It is not extant. Its type is Eurypterus remipes. It is the type genus of Eurypteridae, Eurypteroidea.
It was assigned to Eurypterida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Eurypteridae by Guthörl (1934), Størmer (1955), Tetlie (2006), Dunlop et al. (2020), Lamsdell (2025).
