Taxonomy

Ignacius was named by Matthew and Granger (1921). It is not extant. Its type is Ignacius frugivorus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Phenacolemur by Simpson (1935), Simpson (1935), Simpson (1936), Simpson (1940), McKenna (1963), Schiebout (1974), Krishtalka et al. (1975); it was reranked as Phenacolemur (Ignacius) by Robinson (1968).

It was assigned to Plesiadapidae by Matthew and Granger (1921), Hay (1930); to Phenacolemur by Robinson (1968); to Phenacolemurinae by Gunnell (1989); to Phenacolemurini by Robinson and Ivy (1994); and to Paromomyidae by Bown and Rose (1976), Krishtalka (1978), Krause (1978), Winterfeld (1982), McKenna and Bell (1997), Secord (1998), Bloch et al. (2007), Rose et al. (2012), Scott et al. (2013), Scott et al. (2023).
